The frost is coming back in full force. The weather warning is now in place: rain, hail and strong winds, followed by very cold temperatures, across most of the country

A weather warning for rain, sleet, increased winds and severe cold weather came into force on Thursday 29 January at 20:00 for most of the country. The warning is in effect until Sunday, February 1 at 6:00 p.m. In the next few hours, a yellow code will come into effect in 8 counties in the south of Moldova, the eastern half of Muntenia and Dobrogea.
Between January 29, 8:00 p.m. and February 1, 6:00 p.m., a meteorological warning is in effect of quantitatively moderate rain, sleet and ice, intensification of wind and frost. During this interval, there will be precipitation in most of the country. In the south-eastern regions there will be rain and 10…20 l/m2 and isolated 25 l/m2 will accumulate. In the rest of the country, precipitation will be quantitatively weak, predominantly snow in the mountains and in Moldova and mixed in the other regions. In some areas there will be hail, say meteorologists.
From tonight, from 10:00 p.m. until January 31, at 8:00 p.m., a yellow code will be in effect in 8 counties in southern Moldova, the eastern half of Muntenia and Dobrogea. Here, according to ANM, the wind will intensify with gust speeds generally of 50…65 km/h.

“Nights and mornings will be very cold”
The frost returns on the night of Saturday to Sunday in Moldova, Dobrogea and eastern Transylvania, where minimum temperatures will generally fall between -14 and -10 degrees, and throughout Sunday the frost will persist in most of Moldova.
According to the ANM forecast, until Wednesday (February 4) the weather will remain particularly cold, frosty especially at night and in the morning, especially in the extra-Carpathian regions.
In a statement for Digi24, the director of ANM, Elena Mateescu, emphasized that the beginning of February will bring a sudden drop in the temperature, which will drop to -15 degrees Celsius.
“We are talking about cold weather during the days, because the highs will also drop significantly compared to what we have recorded these days. We are talking about highs that will go down to minus 7-10°C in the north of Moldova, with slightly positive values in the western part of the country. But the lows will gradually become negative”, explained Elena Mateescu in an intervention on Digi24.
“They will be characterized by frosty weather, as the nights and mornings will be very cold, around minus 10-1°C, and it is possible that in depressions we will even record values as low as minus 15°C, at least until around February 4,” she continued.

Between 29.01.2026, 20:00 – 30.01.2026, 10:00, the sky will be cloudy and it will temporarily rain lightly. The wind will blow moderately, passing with intensifications (gusts of 35…40 km/h). The minimum temperature will be 0…2 degrees.
By Saturday morning, the weather will turn cloudy and cool. Temporarily it will rain, and in the second part of the night light precipitation in the form of sleet and snow will also be possible. The wind will blow weak and moderate. The maximum temperature will be 4…6 degrees, and the minimum will be around 0 degrees.
The weather will continue to cool off Saturday night into Sunday morning. The sky will be cloudy and light mixed precipitation will be possible for a while. The wind will blow weak and moderate, with intensification at night, when gusts will reach speeds of 30…40 km/h. The maximum temperature will be 0…2 degrees, and the minimum -7…-5 degrees.
Starting from Sunday morning, the weather will become particularly cold, so the maximum temperature will be -3…-2 degrees. The sky will be temporarily cloudy, and the wind will intensify with speeds of 40…45 km/h, amplifying the feeling of cold.
