On Saturday, President Nicusor Dan went to Focșani to the “Unirea” National College, on which occasion he decorated the educational institution for its 160th anniversary.

The visit of the head of state, on the Day of the Union of the Principalities, was an opportunity to talk with the students of the college.

The President was asked by a student who intends to become a Mathematics student if he could have foreseen his political rise in college or high school.

“It was difficult in high school, because Romania was ruled by Comrade Nicolae Ceauşescu, but I don't think so. For me, politics was a necessity, first for many years trying to correct a piece of society, as I thought from the NGO area, after which I realized that the power of action is limited. I ran for the City Hall twice before being elected the third time. Even there I didn't think I had enough leverage and then I ran for Presidency,” said Dan, quoted by News.ro.

He appreciates that a balance is needed “between specialists in the specialty and people with skills to come into politics”.

“I have said this many times, we need people who are masters of their job and who enter politics. It is not easy at all, because it is a different world, the rules are different, the selection is different”, added the head of state.

In 2015, the president recounted that, after a “somewhat heirupist” campaign in 2012, he had several relationships, he went to a branding firm to create a concept before the 2016 candidacy, where he was profiled and told: “You have no chance.”

“It's not comfortable to enter politics, after you've made a career, you've worked in one direction, but sometimes it's necessary,” added Nicusor Dan.
