Shocking scenes in the courtyard of a high school in Costești: a 16-year-old student was brutally beaten by three young men. Two of the teenagers were detained

A 16-year-old student was assaulted by three young men, in the courtyard of the high school in the town of Costești, Argeș county. The images appearing in the public space led to the intervention of the police and the detention of two of the teenagers.

The fight took place right in the yard of Costești Theoretical High School. The local press claims that a spontaneous conflict broke out between the three, and two of the aggressors punched and kicked the victim. Everything happened under the gaze of other students, who did not intervene, but filmed the shocking scenes and later published the images on social networks.
The images attracted the attention of the police, who notified themselves ex officio and started checks to identify all those involved.
According to the County Police Inspectorate (IPJ) Argeș, the incident occurred in the morning of January 22. The conflict started between two 16-year-old teenagers, one from Buzoești (Argeș) and the other from Tătărăștii de Sus (Teleorman). Shortly after, two other young people, aged 17 and 16, both from Miroși commune, intervened in the altercation and hit the boy from Buzoești.
“From the research, it emerged that the conflict took place in the morning of the same day, the initial conflict being between two 16-year-old minors, from Buzoești, respectively 16-year-olds, from Tătărăștii de Sus, Teleorman county, and those who intervened later, to hit the minor from Buzoești, are a 17-year-old minor and another 16-year-old minor, both from Miroși commune”IPJ Argeș sent.
Following the investigations, all four minors acquired the procedural status of suspects in a criminal file opened for beatings or other violence and disturbing public order and peace, under the supervision of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Costești Court.
After the administration of probation, the police ordered the detention of the two teenagers from Mirosi for 24 hours. They are to be presented to the Prosecutor's Office with a proposal to take some preventive measures. The investigation continues to establish exactly all the circumstances in which the aggression occurred.
“Following the administration of the evidence and the completion of the procedural stages, all four minors acquired the procedural quality of suspect. At the same time, according to the aspects established through research, against two of the minors, respectively against the 17-year-old and 16-year-old minors, from the commune of Miroși, during the night of January 22nd to 23rd, detention for 24 hours was ordered, on the basis of an ordinance”, the police said.
The two detained minors are to be presented to the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Costești Court, with the proposal to take some preventive measures, and the investigations are continued, in order to accurately establish all the circumstances in which the act was committed.
Two more conflicts discovered
In the same context, the police also discovered two other conflict situations between minors, produced on January 20 and 22, unrelated to the main incident.
In these cases, 14- and 15-year-old minors were involved, and the conflicts happened during breaks between classes. All the children were identified and questioned in the presence of their parents, and for each case criminal cases were opened for the same crimes.
IPJ Argeș specifies that, in all three situations, the procedures provided for by Law 26/2024 regarding the issuance of protection orders were analyzed, but no order was issued, as the legal conditions were not met.
In the 2025–2026 school year, at the level of Argeș county, 25 crimes were recorded in the premises and the area adjacent to the educational units – a decrease of approximately 14% compared to the similar period of the previous school year, when 29 acts were reported.
In order to prevent violence and risky behaviors, the school safety police carried out 901 informative-preventive activities, with the participation of 31,586 students and teachers.
