“This solution, if implemented, will be beneficial to the United States of America and all NATO countries,” said the president. “Based on this agreement, I will not impose the tariffs that were scheduled to enter into force on February 1.” – he announced.
Over the weekend, the US president announced the imposition of tariffs of 10%. at eight European countries for their attitude towards his claims regarding Greenland. Tariffs were to increase to 25 percent in June. and remain in force until the US concludes an agreement to purchase the island.
The tariffs were to apply to eight countries that sent soldiers to the Arctic island as part of the exercises. These countries are: Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland.

Donald Trump: This is the deal I wanted to make
US President Donald Trump spoke to CNBC just minutes after he withdrew his threat to impose tariffs on his NATO allies.
Trump said a “concept of an agreement” was on the table. When asked to explain what this would involve, he replied that it was “a little complicated, but we will explain it later.” He also said that the preliminary agreement was “the agreement I wanted to reach.”

Trump says he believes NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, with whom he spoke, has contacted Denmark and other alliance members to discuss the proposal. He added that “the agreement will apply forever.”
The president does not specify whether rare earth minerals will be included in the agreement on Greenland, but claims that cooperation with NATO and Denmark will be part of it.
Turnaround on Greenland
“Further information will be made available as talks progress. Vice President J.D. Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and others, as needed, will be responsible for the negotiations — reporting directly to me,” Trump said.
This is the second turn in the Greenland case. Earlier on Wednesday, President Trump, speaking in Davos, ruled out the possibility of taking Greenland by force.
At the same time, he made it clear that he would strive to take over the island. “We request immediate negotiations to discuss the issue of the US takeover of Greenland,” the president added.

On Thursday, EU leaders will meet in Brussels for an extraordinary summit. Trump's withdrawal from the threat of tariffs significantly reduces the tension before the meeting.
