The mayor who sent indecent images to a 13-year-old girl, placed under house arrest. The judges rejected DIICOT's proposal for preventive detention
The Giurgiu Court rejected, on Wednesday, DIICOT's proposal for the preventive arrest of the mayor of Izvoarele commune, Silviu Marius Cazacu, accused of child pornography, sexual corruption of minors and influencing statements, after sending indecent images to a 13-year-old girl.

“Rejects, as unfounded, the proposal to take the measure of preventive arrest against the defendant Cazacu Silviu Marius, proposal formulated on 21.01.2026 by the Public Ministry – the Prosecutor's Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice – the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – the Giurgiu Territorial Office in the criminal investigation file no. 106/42/P/2026 and orders the release of the defendant, if he is not detained or arrested in another case. (…) Applies the preventive measure of house arrest for a period of 30 days, starting from 21.01.2026 and ending on 19.02.2026, inclusive, against the defendant Cazacu Silviu Marius”. is the solution of the court, writes News.
The court imposed several prohibitions on the mayor, including the one to communicate with the injured person or her family members, or with the witnesses in the file.
Silviu Marius Cazacu was detained on Tuesday in the case in which he is accused of child pornography, sexual corruption of minors and influencing statements.
Between August and September 2025, the mayor of Izvoarele commune, Silviu Marius Cazacu, allegedly requested, during an online conversation, a 13-year-old girl to produce and transmit to him, through the Snapchat network, images in explicit sexual poses and sent the girl pornographic material.
Also, in the month of January 2026, he, together with another person, the mayor allegedly tried to induce, through corruption, the minor's parents not to notify the criminal prosecution bodies/civil court, to withdraw/not to give statements in a criminal/civil case, offering them an agricultural land instead.
The mayor admitted that he sent indecent images, claiming, before being detained, that he did not know that he was sending them to a 13-year-old girl. Silviu Marius Cazacu is married and the father of a boy and suspended himself from the political positions he held in the PNL, announcing that he will remain in the position of mayor.
