Dreamy fish in the Oder. The cause was discovered

The perpetrator of the dreams of caused by Carassiad from the Opole section of the Odra and the Gliwice Canal on Thursday is the Cyhv -2 virus – the spokeswoman of the Opole voivode Kinga Tokarz said on Friday.

Cases of fishing in the waters of the Gliwice Canal were observed on April 8, 2025, and on the Odra River on April 14, 2025 to April 23 on the section of the Opole Gliwice Canal, 489.4 kg of dreaming fish was fished out, while from the Oder – 1110 kg.

On Thursday, Polish Water Employees carried out a reinforcement of dreaming fish. 109 kg of fish was caught on the Gliwice Canal, while 380 kg was collected on the Oder. Another 386 kg of fish was caught on Friday. The samples were forwarded to the study at the PIB State Veterinary Institute in Puławy.

“The cause of dreaming of fish of the genus is Cyprinid Herpesvirus 2 (Cyhv -2). Importantly -the Cyprinid Herpesvirus 2 (Cyhv -2) virus is specific to fish of the genus Carassius and does not pose a threat to mammals, including people. Nevertheless, it is necessary to be careful so that the virus is not being transmitted to other watercourses and water reservoirs” – Kinga Tokarz informed.

The services of the voivode appeal to residents and anglers to not be used to fish and other aquatic organisms from the Odra and Gliwice Canal to other watercourses, disinfection of fishing equipment after fishing, and disinfection of footwear and clothing in fishing on the Oder and the Gliwice Canal.
