“Over PLN 1.5 million in fines will be paid by companies that did not clear snow from pedestrian areas in accordance with the standards specified by ZOM in their contracts,” Iwona Fryczyńska from ZOM told PAP.

She added that ZOM also terminated the contract with the company responsible for snow removal in two districts and changed the contractor. The causes include inefficiency, failure to meet deadlines and inadequate execution of tasks.

The director of the Warsaw ZOM, Robert Szymański, noted that The inhabitants of Warsaw showed great understanding in the period between Christmas and the first days of the new yearso they deserve even more an apology for the inconvenience and information about the consequences towards the contractors.

“We took into account that it was a period of very difficult weather conditions, the heaviest in about a decade, with up to 25 cm of snowfall. Many times, after the end of snow removal, another wave of precipitation came, covering the newly cleared areas. However, our requirements were clearly defined, and the companies that signed contracts with us knew the implementation conditions and the consequences of not fulfilling them. I expect maximum mobilization from snow removal contractors and prioritizing the safety of residents,” he added.

This winter season ZOM terminated the contract and changed the contractor for the works in Wilanów and Ursynów.

ZOM inspectors conducted nearly 10,000 inspections this winter. work inspection. The most objections were to the failure to meet the deadlines for clearing snow from sidewalks and bus stops. The consequences also concerned cases when snow removal was not carried out in accordance with the guidelines.

ZOM inspectors work around the clock and check over 4 million square meters of pedestrian areas. These include sidewalks that are not adjacent to the property, stops, footbridges, stairs and accesses to metro stations.

The snow removal status of other sidewalks in Warsaw can also be monitored by the City Guard, which can also fine managers who fail to fulfill their duties, and such reports are sent from residents to the Municipal Contact Center Warsaw 19115.

In addition to the ZOM, the following are responsible for snow removal in Warsaw: real estate managers – sidewalks adjacent to these properties, communities and estate managers – sidewalks and residential streets, 18 district offices – streets where buses do not run and sidewalks along these roads, General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways – expressways in the capital, some sidewalks, stairs and the Southern Bridge and the Grot-Rowecki Bridge, Public Areas Authority – some areas in the district Śródmieście, the Praga Public Areas Authority – part of the areas in the Praga-Północ district and the Greenery Authority – alleys and sidewalks in and around parks.
