After returning from my visit to Berlin, I will ask the Legislative Office of the Sejm whether there is an interpretation regarding the remuneration of MP Zbigniew Ziobro, who was granted asylum in Hungary, said Włodzimierz Czarzasty, Speaker of the Sejm. If there is an opinion that there is a legal possibility to take away the remuneration, I will certainly not tremble – he added.

On Monday, one of his defenders, attorney-at-law, announced that Ziobro had received international protection and political asylum in Hungary. Bartosz Lewandowski. The lawyer said that this decision was made due to violations of rights and freedoms in Poland and the actions of, among others, prosecutor's offices, which resulted in political repression. The former head of the Ministry of Justice announced on Tuesday that he would not resign from his parliamentary mandate.
Application to the Legislative Office regarding payment to Zbigniew Ziobro
On Monday, Czarzasty announced that it had implemented a procedure to determine the issue of MP Ziobro's remuneration in connection with granting him political asylum and international protection by Hungary.
On Tuesday, when asked at a press conference in Berlin about Ziobro's salary, the Speaker of the Sejm emphasized that he was returning to Warsaw on Wednesday evening. “On Thursday, I will ask the Legislative Office whether there is an interpretation on this matter and, in accordance with the interpretation, I will take steps – either me or the Presidium of the Sejm – depending on whose competences it requires,” he emphasized.
Mechanism of salary reduction and lack of allowance
As he noted, if someone does not work for the parliament and is a parliamentarian, that person does not receive a parliamentary allowance. “The interpretation is that the allowance is paid when work is performed within the country,” the marshal noted.
So Mr. Ziobro will say goodbye to the diet, or he has already said goodbye. I don't follow it day and night, but I'm talking about the example of my friend Mr. Ziobro, who was invited to stay permanently in Budapest – he added.
The Marshal also noted that 18 days of absence from Sejm sessions means that the salary is lower with each passing day and this is brought to 10%. salary.
He also reminded that there is a person who has already resigned from this salary. “We didn't have a party like PiSwhere first its representatives make a fuss, doing various things about which the prosecutor's office has a clear position, and the courts will judge them, and then they flee to another country,” he said. “Therefore, we have to deal with these phenomena rationally, with a distance,” he noted.
“We deal with it in the simplest way, without envy or hatred. There will be an interpretation by the legal department (of the Sejm). When it is ready, I will make a decision. I have no arrests in this case,” he emphasized.
“If there is an opinion that there is a legal possibility of prohibiting remuneration, I will certainly not shake my handy” – added Czarzasty.
The precedent of MP Romanowski
PiS MP Marcin Romanowski has been staying in Hungary since December 2024, where he received political asylum. The politician believes that he cannot count on a fair trial in Poland, and he treats his “mission on the Danube” as a fight against lawlessness and as an effort to “remove from power as quickly as possible a regime that is harmful to Poles.” The MP informed that he had renounced his status as a professional MP and therefore he would not receive a parliamentary salary. Romanowski, former deputy head of the Ministry of Justice, is a suspect in the investigation into the Justice Fund.
Ziobro is under investigation by the National Prosecutor's Office, which accuses him of leading an organized criminal group and using his position for criminal activities. Ziobro allegedly committed 26 crimes, including: give orders to his subordinates to break the law in order to provide selected entities with subsidies from the Justice Fund, interfere in the preparation of competition offers and allow funds to be awarded to unauthorized entities.
