In the Krasnoyarsk Territory, a court found an entrepreneur from the Irkutsk region guilty of illegal logging on an especially large scale and sentenced him to actual imprisonment.
According to the prosecutor's office, the crime was committed in 2022 in the Nizhneingashsky district:
“IN There was active logging in the forests. For those around, everything looked standard: people were working, tractors were walking, timber was being transported to bases. At the site of the future felling, the entrepreneur and his partner showed the workers conventional marks – as if these were the boundaries of the legal plot. After that, his team got to work: the wood was felled, transported, sawn and sold. However, all this activity had no legal basis – there were no permits. Over the course of a year, the entrepreneur organized the illegal logging of 2.9 thousand cubic meters of wood, causing damage to the forest fund in the amount of over 43 million rubles.”
At the trial, the man tried to present everything as help to another entrepreneur, referred to ignorance of the exact blocks and allotments, and also insisted that he relied on the boundaries of the cutting area shown to him.
According to Part 3 of Art. 260 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, the court sentenced the defendant to 6.5 years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony, a fine of 450 thousand rubles, and prohibited him from engaging in logging activities for 3 years after his release. Equipment and chainsaws, as instruments of crime, are turned into state revenue, and the property of the convicted person is kept under arrest until full compensation for the collected damage.
