Trump says the White House wants Greenland to “own”

On the night of January 12, aboard Air Force One, reporters asked him when was the last time he made a real proposal to Denmark on the Greenland issue.

“I didn't do it, but Greenland has to make a deal because Greenland doesn't want to see a takeover by Russia or China. They don't go there. It's very far from Greenland,” the American president said.

Trump repeated that the island nation is guarded by “two dog teams” at a time when there are “Russian destroyers and submarines, Chinese destroyers and submarines everywhere.”

Responding to the remark that this could destroy NATO, he replied that the Alliance needs the United States much more than America needs it.

He summarized that the White House wants Greenland as “property.” According to him, “you need a title, as they say in real estate.”

On January 10, Trump already said that it was “not enough” for the United States to lease Greenland from Denmark.
