Law enforcement officers are investigating an incident with a kitten in the Kyiv region after a video on social networks


Law enforcement officers discovered information about the incident while monitoring social networks. A message appeared in one of the capital’s Telegram channels with a video recording of the cruel actions of an 18-year-old girl.

According to law enforcement agencies, in one of the villages of the Tarashchansky community, a local resident forcibly threw one of the kittens against the wall, filming the crime on her mobile phone.

“Currently, two kittens that were found in the house are under the supervision of specialists in one of the veterinary clinics in the Obukhov region. They are provided with qualified assistance,” the message says.

Law enforcement officers began a pre-trial investigation into the fact of cruelty to animals (Part 1 of Article 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Context

In 2017, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a law that significantly increases the punishment for abuse of vertebrate animals, including homeless ones. According to Art. 299 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, cruelty to animals is punishable by a fine in the amount of 17 thousand UAH to 51 thousand UAH, or arrest for up to six months, or restriction of freedom for up to three years.
