Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky indicated on Saturday that he plans to name Defense Minister Denis Shmyhal, whom he hopes to replace, as Energy Minister in a cabinet reshuffle that still needs parliamentary approval, France Presse and Agerpres reported.

“I met with Denis Shmihal. I am grateful to him for his methodical work at the Ministry of Defense and for strengthening the processes of ensuring the protection of our state. This kind of systematic approach is exactly what the Ukrainian energy sector needs at this time,” Zelensky wrote on social networks.

On Friday, Zelenski indicated that he wants to replace Shmihal with Mihailo Fedorov, the current Minister of Digital Transformation.

According to Zelensky, the change aims to streamline defense management in a context where Ukraine faces major security challenges and needs closer coordination between technology, defense and state administration.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine appointed the director of the General Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense (GUR), Kiril Budanov, as the head of the presidential chancellery.

The leadership of the military intelligence service was taken over by Oleg Ivashchenko, who was the head of the foreign intelligence service.
