Shortly after the US attack on Venezuela, the satire site Times New Roman published an article in which he ironically associates the writer Radu Paraschivescu with the Venezuelan leader Nicolás Madurostarting from a physical resemblance commented on over time, jokingly, in the public space.

The Times New Roman satire website published two texts that refer to the physical resemblance between the writer Radu Paraschivescu and the Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro, in the tense context created by the American intervention in Venezuela.

In the first article, the authors write, in a satirical tone, that “the writer Radu Paraschivescu won a third term as president of Venezuela. Although the position provides him with a car, an official motorcade and a guard, the writer still remained a modest man, who travels by tram and does not spend extravagantly.”

The text continues with a fictitious statement attributed to the writer: “Stay in traffic in your personal car or in the presidential car, same thing. Wait. That's how I take the tram to Balta Albă, I have time to read a book, correct a paper, talk to the world, because I like to interact with my readers.”

Who is Maduro's “accomplice”?

The second article published by Times New Roman starts from the news about the capture of Nicolás Maduro and takes the joke further. The text claims that “Nicolás Maduro was captured today, January 3, 2026, following a large-scale US military operation”, before then introducing a fictitious character presented as “Maduro's accomplice from Romania”.

He is satirically identified as Cătălin Striblea, journalist and radio producer, who “denied any association with his criminal activities, stating that he only talked to him about books and controversial ideas in Romanian society”.

The joke was continued by the activist Radu Hossu, who commented on Facebook, also in a comic register: “I mark Radu Paraschivescu safe from Trump Special Operation! I spoke with Radu and fortunately he is fine. Unlike his double, Maduro and his wife.”
