Eurostar, the high-speed train service that connects Great Britain with continental Europe, announced at noon on Tuesday the suspension of “all trains between London, Paris, Amsterdam and Brussels” until further notice, due to “major disruptions”, according to News.ro and the BBC.
During the morning, Eurostar announced that it was facing several problems affecting the movement of its trains. The company cited a “power supply problem in the Channel Tunnel”, which links Paris to London.
The company later said it was also experiencing a “technical problem with a Shuttle train”, a service that transports cars, trucks and coaches between France and the UK.
“Our trains are at risk of significant delays and last-minute cancellations,” Eurostar warned.
“We strongly advise all our passengers to postpone their journey to another date. Please avoid showing up at the station unless you already have a ticket to travel today,” Eurostar advised.
A spokesman for the company told Reuters it was not known when services would resume and declined to estimate the number of passengers affected by the disruption.
The service interruption affects one of the busiest international rail corridors in Europe, in the midst of the holiday travel season.
