The Ministry of the Environment warns that the cloud of smoke released following the strong fire that broke out on Sunday at a warehouse of sanitary materials and plastics in Sector 6 of the Capital is moving to the east-southeast, and the residents of these areas are advised to respect the RO-Alert messages issued by the authorities and avoid, as much as possible, staying outdoors for a long time. According to the authorities, at this moment, the data recorded by the fixed stations in the vicinity of the fire do not indicate significant exceedances of the values ​​of suspended particles.

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Forests informs, in the context of the strong fire that broke out on Sunday at a materials warehouse on Iuliu Maniu Boulevard, in Sector 6 of the Capital, that the situation is permanently monitored by the national air quality monitoring network and subordinate structures.

According to the cited source, the fire is manifested on an area of ​​approximately 2,000 square meters, at a warehouse of plastic materials, where installations, thermal plants, pipes and fittings burned. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

According to the information sent by the commissioners from the National Environmental Guard in the field, behind the warehouse there is a temporary storage point for biomass waste belonging to SC URBAN SA, and the firefighters are coordinating the intervention including in this area to prevent the spread of the fire.

“The air quality is monitored in real time. The mobile laboratory of the Bucharest County Environment Directorate within the National Agency for the Environment and Protected Areas – ANMAP arrived in the field, was placed in a residential area in the vicinity of the burning site, in the direction of the smoke cloud, and began monitoring the air quality in real time,” the Environmental Guard said.

“At this moment, the data recorded by the fixed stations in the vicinity do not indicate significant exceedances of the values ​​of particles in suspension”, mentions the same source.

According to the estimates of the specialists from the National Meteorological Administration, the air circulation is predominant from the west-northwest sector, with wind gusts that can reach 50-60 km/h, and the smoke cloud is estimated to move to the east-southeast. In this context, the population in the areas in the direction of the smoke cloud is asked to respect the RO-ALERT messages issued by the authorities and to avoid, as much as possible, prolonged exposure in the open air.

As soon as the fire will be extinguished and the intervention will be completed, the commissioners of the National Environmental Guard will start the inspection procedure to order the necessary legal measures.
