Green tree in the kitchen: growing an avocado from a seed is easier than it seems

If you're dreaming of a vibrant, lush plant that's reminiscent of warmer climes, start with the avocado. This is not just a tropical fruit. Its seed easily turns into an elegant tree with glossy leaves. It does not bloom on the windowsill, but in itself becomes a decoration for the kitchen or living room. And most importantly, you don’t need greenhouses, soil or special care. All you need is a seed, water and a little patience.

How to grow avocados at home:

  • Take one ripe avocado. The bone should be hard, without cracks or mold.
  • Carefully remove the pit, rinse under water and remove the brown skin if it comes off easily.
  • Place the pit on three or four toothpicks in the center so it doesn't touch the bottom of the glass.
  • Fill the glass with water so that the bottom third of the seed is submerged.
  • Place in a warm place with diffused light, but not in direct sun.
  • Change the water every two or three days to prevent it from stagnating.
  • After two to six weeks you will see roots and later a sprout will appear on top.
  • When the sprout reaches 15–20 cm, transplant the avocado into a pot with light soil, leaving the top of the seed above the ground.
  • Water moderately, avoiding overwatering.

In just a couple of months you will have a living, lush tree that purifies the air and creates an atmosphere of comfort. It will not bear fruit in the apartment, but it will please the eye every day.
