The longest since the beginning of the war. The IAEA reported a serious communication failure at Zaporizhzhya NPP

At the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, the longest communication failure occurred since the beginning of a full-scale war, which was unleashed against Ukraine by the aggressor country of the Russian Federation. The International Atomic Energy Agency reported this on May 28.

According to the IAEA, the station remained without telephone and Internet connections for about 12 hours. The reasons for the failure are still unknown, but it coincided with reports of increased hostilities and attacks on Energodar, where most of the Zaporizhia NPP workers live.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi said that for several hours agency representatives could not contact their team at the plant, and the Zaporozhye NPP itself was effectively isolated from the outside world.

The IAEA emphasized that the situation once again demonstrates the risks to nuclear safety during war. In addition, due to the deteriorating security situation at the station, the supply of diesel fuel for backup systems was temporarily suspended.
