“Roscosmos has concluded a state contract with NPO Lavochkin to carry out work until 2036 to create a Russian lunar power station,” the statement says.
They plan to implement this as early as 2025 for “long-term power supply to consumers (lunar rovers, observatory) of the Russian Lunar Program, as well as infrastructure facilities of the International Scientific Lunar Station.”
The Russians claim that the project will first develop spacecraft for such a mission, then carry out “ground-based experimental testing,” flight testing and “deployment of infrastructure on the Moon.”
Roscosmos called their project “an important step towards the creation of a permanently functioning scientific lunar station and the transition from one-time missions to a long-term lunar research program.”
Context
Roscosmos' announcement about the next “lunar” mission came after the failure of the program, within the framework of which it was planned to land the Russian spacecraft “Luna-25” on the Moon. As a result, the Russian apparatus crashed into the moon. This was in 2023.
In 2019, at that time, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, stated that Russia plans to land a man on the Moon in 2030, and by 2025, deliver the Luna-Grunt apparatus to the Earth’s satellite.
