According to the court portal, on Thursday, December 18, the Prahova Court registered a case with “crimes of corruption”in which the former manager of the Ploiești Emergency County Hospital was referred to justice.

Bogdan Cristian Nica, a doctor by profession, is a well-known figure in PNL Prahova. Throughout his political and administrative career, he held positions such as Secretary of State in the Ministry of Health and President of the National Authority for Consumer Protection. He also ran in the local elections for the position of mayor of Ploiești, but lost the election to an independent candidate.

Mihăiță Sorin Iordache, economic director of the County Emergency Hospital, is also indicted in the same file “Constantin Andreoiu” from Ploiesti.

The file also concerns the businessman Dumitru Alexandru Bucur, as well as his company, Velmed International SRL, a company based in Bucharest, known for supplying medical equipment and with a turnover of tens of millions of lei.

The commercial relationship between Velmed International and Ploiești County Emergency Hospital has been documented since the period of the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the medical unit concluded a contract worth approximately 330,000 lei with this company, for the purchase of 10,000 FFP2 masks with a valve, at a price of 33 lei per piece, according to information published at the time in the press.

The company's interest in collaborating with the Ploiești hospital continued even after the pandemic. In subsequent years, Velmed International attempted to supply cardiology medical equipment, and in 2022 challenged a contract award procedure, later dropping the challenge.

This year, a local portal reported that Bogdan Nica is being investigated in a corruption case with an estimated damage of over 28 million lei. According to the same source, the current management of the Ploiești Emergency County Hospital has announced its intention to become a civil party in the case against the former manager.
