The president of the UDMR criticized PSD's decision to vote the simple motion against USR's Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, categorizing the decision as “a mistake”. The PSD movement will also be discussed on Wednesday, in a meeting of the coalition, but Kelemen Hunor says that there are still no reasons for concern regarding a possible breakup of the coalition.
Kelemen Hunor, the leader of the UDRM and one of the leaders of the governing coalition, said on Tuesday in the Parliament, after meeting with Sorin Grindeanu, that the PSD was wrong when it decided to vote “for” the simple motion submitted by the AUR against the Minister of the Environment Diana Buzoianu.
“If we strictly read the coalition protocol, it says there: members of the coalition will not sign and vote for simple and censure motions. From this point of view, what happened yesterday, from my point of view, was a mistake. But I can't tell you more because everyone makes their own strategy,” said Kelemen Hunor.
A day ago, the UDMR leader said that PSD's move is serious because it gives a sign that “the coalition is dysfunctional.”

“If you sit in the coalition, you don't vote on a motion”
Asked now if this gesture undermines the authority of Prime Minister Bolojan, he said that “in no case”. He then recalled another situation from 2024, when the simple motion submitted by AUR against Simona Bucura Oprescu, then Minister of Labor in the Government led by Marcel Ciolacu, passed with USR votes. At that time, however, USR was not part of the governing coalition, so no protocol was violated.
“It is not an obligation for the prime minister or for the party from which the minister comes for the minister to be withdrawn. Nothing like this happened with Ms. Bucura in 2024 either, and I understood that neither USR nor the prime minister are thinking of a change this time,” explained Hunor.
He also said that in tomorrow's coalition meeting they will address this topic: “From my point of view, this is how we have behaved every time, if we have grievances, because they appear, you discuss in the coalition, you try to find a solution. If you stay in the coalition, you don't vote a motion, that's my approach.”
The UDMR leader explained that there are no sanctions in the coalition protocol, but that the issues must be discussed permanently.
Asked if the fact that the PSD voted alongside the opposition could lead to the breakup of the coalition, Kelemen Hunor replied: “No. The coalition is moving forward. There is no risk of a breakup. You don't have to worry.”
Coaliti has a meeting tomorrow. The first in almost a month
Tomorrow the leaders of the coalition will meet, Wednesday, from 14.00, for the first time in the last three weeks for a meeting. They will continue the discussions on the subjects they have not been able to complete so far, one of them being the reform of the public administration, the reduction of positions by 10%.
The reform should be completed soon so that the budget law for next year is made taking into account the job cuts, otherwise, it will have to be made respecting the current law.
What the coalition agreement says
The simple motion submitted by AUR against the Minister of the Environment, Diana Buzoianu, passed on Monday with PSD votes. There were 73 votes “for” and 43 “against”. The passing of a simple motion does not automatically lead to the dismissal of a minister, being a parliamentary instrument through which the position is expressed on a certain domestic or foreign policy issue.
Practically, with this gesture, PSD violated the coalition protocol. Specifically, Article 19, which says that: “No parliamentarian, member of the parties and political formations that are part of the Coalition will sign, support or vote a simple motion directed against any member of the Government or a motion of censure against the Government.”
Bolojan has not yet commented on the situation
So far, Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan has not commented on the PSD movement.
At the same time, Dominic Fritz, the USR leader, said that Minister Buzoianu will remain in office and asked Grindeanu to explain why he violated the protocol.
In a message on Facebook, the leader of the USR also accused that the aim of the PSD and the AUR was to distract attention from the subject of captured justice.
