Moldovans from Russia could be sent to the front. The warning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova for its own citizens

Moldovans in the Russian Federation, who apply for a residence permit or Russian citizenship, may be forced to sign the military service contract and thus be sent to the front in Ukraine, according to changes in Russian legislation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau sent an address warning its citizens of this risk.

“According to a presidential decree, signed in Moscow (No. 821 of November 5, 2025), certain categories of foreigners applying for a residence permit or Russian citizenship may be required to sign a military service contract or present a certificate certifying their unfitness for the army. Although the Russian authorities talk about “special conditions” for Moldovans, their application is not clear. In practice, there is a risk that people will be pressured to accept military obligations”, the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chisinau states.

Thus, the institution recommends people who intend to go to Russia or are already there, to be extremely cautious, not to sign any document of a military nature without legal consultation, and in case of pressure, to immediately request consular assistance.
