From today, December 15, in Krasnoyarsk they begin comprehensive measuresabout the fight against the spread of rats, from the invasion of which residents suffer. Solid deratization will take place within a week, until December 21st. This decision was made by the sanitary and anti-epidemic commission under the regional government.

Residential areas, basements, areas near shops and garbage sites will be treated against rodents with chemicals. Mechanical traps will also be used; ultrasonic repellers; grain, container, briquetted and granular baits. In addition, it is planned to eliminate food sources and shelters for rats.

Deratization will be carried out by management companies, homeowners' associations, owners of retail outlets and container sites, organizations and enterprises of various forms of ownership. For it to be effective, the waste disposal operator is instructed to first clean the containers and garbage chutes, and remove all solid household waste. Rospotrebnadzor will monitor the process.

Pet owners are asked to exercise caution during these days.

“The drugs used are potent poisons. Please be extremely careful this week to keep your pets safe. Walk your dogs outside only on a leash; keep away from garbage cans, basements and technical rooms; Make sure your dog doesn't pick up anything from the ground. Even if your pet is a purely domestic cat or dog that does not go outside, there is a risk of poisoning. Poison particles may remain on outdoor shoes, so wash the soles thoroughly immediately after returning home. Put outdoor shoes in closed cabinets or on shelves inaccessible to animals,” urged deputy of the regional Legislative Assembly Ilya Zaitsev, who was one of the first to declare war on rats in Krasnoyarsk.

He also recalled that, according to Rospotrebnadzor, this year the number of complaints about these rodents has tripled, and targeted measures stopped working, since the rats migrated but did not disappear anywhere. “A one-time strike across the entire city plus neighboring areas is the only way to really reduce the population, and not just drive pests from place to place“, says the parliamentarian.
