Experts tell us how to choose a safe artificial Christmas tree

Experts remind you that you need to approach the choice of an artificial Christmas tree responsibly, because a low-quality product can harm your health. The publication Vslukh.ru shares advice.

First of all, you should pay attention to the smell. A high-quality artificial Christmas tree should not have a strong chemical smell. As Rospotrebnadzor explained, materials, dyes and flavors can cause allergies or poisoning.

“The materials from which the Christmas tree is made, artificial dyes, flavors, and odor simulators can cause allergies, as well as poisoning from the chemicals contained in the artificial Christmas tree, the presence of which can only be determined through laboratory testing, therefore the packaging of the product must contain information about the presence or absence of harmful chemicals,” the department noted.

Experts advise not to save on purchases, since cheap materials can emit dangerous volatile substances such as phenol and formaldehyde.

“Saving money when choosing can lead to big troubles. Low-quality artificial materials, when exposed to temperature, emit phenol and formaldehyde – volatile substances that can cause dizziness, headaches, poor health, etc.,” experts warned.

When choosing, it is also important to check the quality of the needles: they must be strong, attach well to the branches and quickly restore their shape after compression. In addition, the material must be fire resistant.

It is better to buy an artificial Christmas tree in large stores or supermarkets. When purchasing, be sure to request certificates of conformity and declarations confirming the safety of the product.
