Justice Minister and Attorney General Waldemar Żurek said in an interview for Reuters on Thursday that the Hungarian government is closer to Moscow than to Brussels, and Prime Minister Viktor Orban wants to destroy the EU from the inside, while his pro-Russian policy is unacceptable to EU citizens.

“Today it seems that the Hungarian authorities are closer to the authorities in Moscow than to the EU authorities, and I say this with great sadness and also with great concern,” Żurek said.
According to the agency, the minister also expressed frustration with the position Budapest took towards MP Zbigniew Ziobro and former deputy minister of justice Marcin Romanowski, accused of abuse of the Justice Fund and protected by the Hungarian authorities.
In the coming weeks, a Polish court will decide whether a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) should be issued for Ziobro, reports Reuters.
Żurek recalled that the EAW is “an agreement between all EU countries that we must respect (…) Today we have a situation in which Hungary says 'we are granting asylum to Mr. Romanowski', which in my opinion is a violation of the agreement within the EU,” reports the agency.
“It seems that it will be a matter for later to analyze the behavior of the Hungarian state. And Poland may be forced to highlight this abnormal situation on the European forum, where Hungary is breaking the rules by granting asylum (to people prosecuted by) the EAW,” concluded the prosecutor general.
