The High Court of Cassation and Justice – headed by Lia Savonea – granted the former head of the CNAS an extraordinary appeal and decided to annul his 6-year prison sentence. Duță was sentenced definitively in July 2022, being accused by the DNA of having received a bribe of 6.3 million euros in exchange for awarding a contract of public money to two software companies, for the implementation of the health card.

The ICCJ panel that decided to cancel Lucian Duță's conviction was made up of judges: Luminita Cristiu-Ninu, Adriana Ispas and Iulian Dragomir.
