The leader of the social democrats, Sorin Grindeanu, said on Monday that Daniel Băluță will remain the president of the Bucharest PSD organization, this being a base on which he can build, because in less than three years there will be another election in the capital.

The liberal Ciprian Ciucu won the elections for the Capital City Hall on Sunday with just over 36% of the votes. Daniela Băluță finished in 3rd place, with 20.5% of the votes, being surpassed by Anca Alexandrescu, supported by AUR, who obtained more than 8,400 of the votes, with a score of 21.94%, according to the official data provided by the Electoral Bureau, after all the minutes were centralized.

The score obtained in the elections for Bucharest marked a new failure for the social democrats, being weaker than the one that Gabriela Firea had in the 2024 election, both in terms of number of votes and percentages.

Grindeanu was asked if the defeat of Daniel Băluță in the elections for the Capital City Hall is a failure of an individual or a failure of the party, i.e. if PSD had another candidate it would have had a better score.

“No. Daniel Băluță, when we measured and did these things, starting from the summer, since Nicușor Dan became the president of Romania, measurements were made in Bucharest and Daniel Băluță, constantly, was there, in the top of preferences. Of course, it is clear that at this moment, in the campaign, things were probably not very well calibrated, considering that no poll of the last six months, not by PSD, but by anyone someone else, with what the results seem to be now. And this means that during the last days of the campaign, some changes probably happened at the level of Bucharest, but this is more about campaign tactics, not what Daniel did”, said Grindeanu, in a press conference at PSD headquarters, quoted by Agerpres.

He added that Daniel Băluță has done many things in Sector 4 and will continue to do so.

“Daniel will remain the president of PSD Bucharest, obviously. It is a base that Daniel can build very well in Bucharest, because in less than three years we will have elections again in Bucharest”, the leader of the social democrats also specified.

Final results of the Bucharest elections, according to the data provided by the Electoral Bureau:

  • Ciprian Ciucu 36.16% (211,562 votes)
  • Anca Alexandrescu 21.94% (128,405 votes)
  • Daniel Băluță 20.51% (120,001 votes)
  • Cătălin Drula 13.90% (81,310 votes)
  • Ana Ciceăla 5.85% (34,239 votes)
