The president and founder of Drutex, Leszek Gierszewski, died at the age of 75, the company announced on its website on Thursday.
Drutex reported that Leszek Gierszewski died on Thursday. The entry states that Gierszewski left behind “not only the company that he built from scratch, but also a vision that has been setting standards in the joinery industry for years.”
In 1985, Leszek Gierszewski founded a company called Wytwarzanie Wyrobów z Drutu, Chańcuchów i Sręzyny w Wiklinie, which produced, among others, fencing nets, wire products, nails and roof tiles. Six years later, the company was moved to Bytów – Gierszewski's hometown – and its name was changed to Drutex. There, in 1994, the production of PVC windows began. In the following years, Drutex expanded its activities to include the production of roller blinds, aluminum windows and doors, and wooden joinery. In 2003, the company acquired the legal form of a joint-stock company. Drutex has also developed its own PVC window and door systems with an extensive chamber system guaranteeing high thermal insulation.
Drutex considers the construction of the European Joinery Center to be its largest investment. Construction began in 2013 and took 20 months; this is when the first hall was built. In 2015, Drutex moved to the second stage of the investment, which included the construction of a second hall. The total area of ECS is over 55,500 sq m.
Drutex employs approximately 4,000 employees and operates within a network of over 4,000 business partners.
Leszek Gierszewski was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Bytów in 2020. “He is not only an entrepreneur and the largest employer in the region, but also a philanthropist about whose activities we know a lot, but our knowledge is still rudimentary, because very often his activity in this area was and is carried out anonymously, quietly, without publicity – said the then mayor of Bytów, Ryszard Sylka.
