What did Romanians search for on Google in 2025? Only one sporting event made the TOP 10

The searches of 2025 were carried out in several categories, aiming to identify search trends in Romania throughout the year. The lists included “trending” searches, which saw a monthly increase of more than 10 times in 2025 compared to 2024. The reference period under analysis was January 1, 2025 – December 3, 2025.

Compared to the year 2024when sport was first in the search list, in a year with a European Football Championship and an edition of the Olympic Games, in 2025 it was politics that won first place, after the presidential elections in Romania took place in the spring.

The most popular search in the year 2025 was, accordingly, “Nicușor Dan”. In terms of sports events, only one caught the top 10, the search for the match FCSB – PAOK, which ranked 8th.

FCSB – PAOK, the only sporting event in the top 10 searches on Google in 2025

FCSB, the champion of Romania, faced PAOK, Răzvan Lucescu's team, in the play-off for the round of 16 in the Europa League. Both matches took place in February and FCSB won twice, both in the round and in the return leg.

In the first match, in Greece, the red-blue group won 2-1. In the return, FCSB also won, score 2-0.

• “Trending lists are different from lists of the most searched terms (phrases/words ordered by absolute search volumes on Google and which tend to change very little from year to year). Analysis of trending searches enables the identification of interests specific to 2025,” the company said.
