Western Pomerania invests in roads. The Marshal announces one billion for modernization

Marshal of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, Olgierd Geblewicz, announced the completion of 43 road investments worth a total of PLN 224 million in 2023, which allowed for the modernization of 175 km of provincial roads. He also announced that by the end of 2028, the local government will allocate as much as PLN 900 million for this purpose.
The voivodeship authorities summarized the first year of implementation of the “Western Pomerania on the right track” program, which significantly increased expenditure on road infrastructure. Contrary to the original plans, which assumed the implementation of 35 tasks for PLN 250 million, 43 investments for PLN 224 million were completed. Roads in Western Pomerania. The program is accelerating and the region is planning further modernizations
The Marshal emphasized that although the roads in the region are among the best in Poland, the local government decided to launch a special program to speed up the renovation of subsequent routes. 32 investments are planned for 2026, covering 160 km of roads, and by the end of 2028, it is planned to modernize 500 km of routes for a total amount of PLN 900 million.
Deputy Marshal Jakub Kowalik recalled that a dozen or so years ago the voivodeship allocated only PLN 10-20 million annually to roads. Currently, annual expenditure has increased to PLN 250 million. Kowalik pointed out that the implementation of such a large number of projects requires intensive work of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship Road Authority (ZZDW), which must conduct numerous tenders, hand over construction sites and carry out acceptance works.

Further projects in progress and new support for district roads
By the end of November 2023, ZZDW had completed 23 investments covering 86 km of roads, and another six tasks covering 13 km are in the acceptance process. Work on an additional 76 km of routes is scheduled to be completed in December.
Local government officials emphasized that all investments are consulted with local authorities. Marshal Geblewicz also announced a new program for the modernization of district roads, implemented in cooperation with districts. As he explained, these roads are an important complement to the provincial network and are often used by bicycle tourists. However, the difficult financial situation of counties and limited opportunities to obtain external funds make support from the voivodeship necessary.
Geblewicz announced that the voivodeship board intends to apply to the regional council to allocate PLN 60 million to co-finance the revitalization of district roads in cooperation with starostes and communes. If these funds are included in the 2026 budget, a competition program will be created specifying the principles of financing and the selection of roads for modernization.
