In Poland, a TV channel showed a map of Ukraine without Crimea, and later invited the Ukrainian ambassador

TVN is a nationwide commercial television channel.

“Suspilne” explained that, according to ratings, TVN is one of the leaders in the Polish television market. It is available on cable television, satellite, digital terrestrial network, as well as through an online platform.

During the show The Floor!, which showed a map of Ukraine without Crimea, two participants, Michal and Krzysztof, stood on an LED floor divided into 100 squares, each of which corresponded to a certain category of knowledge. Participants competed against each other in a duel quiz, the task of which was to capture the entire floor.

On the map during the show, Ukraine was colored red, while Crimea and the aggressor country Russia, which occupied Crimea, were colored orange.

On November 11, when Polish TVN showed Ukraine without part of it, Poland celebrated Independence Day. Congratulated Warsaw Happy holiday to Kyiv too.

On November 28, the TV channel reportedthat later the Ambassador of Ukraine to Poland Vasily Bodnar came to their broadcast. There is no information about the Ukrainian diplomat’s outrage over the incomplete map of Ukraine on TVN.

Context

Russia occupied Crimea after a forceful blockade of Ukrainian military units and an illegal referendum on March 16, 2014.

Ukraine and most other countries do not recognize the occupation of the peninsula. The Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stated that they are committed to the de-occupation of all Ukrainian territories seized by Russia since 2014, in particular Crimea.

Scandals regularly arise around the world with maps of Ukraine without Crimea. In particular, in May 2022, the Hungarian government published a video on its YouTube channel calling for peace, which included a map of Ukraine, where Crimea was not part of it. After criticism, Budapest corrected the video.

In December 2024, FIFA showed Ukraine without Crimea during the broadcast of the draw qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
