In Krasnoyarsk, a man was sentenced for calling for violence against Roma on the Internet.

The joint press service of the regional courts said that in September 2024, a Krasnoyarsk resident previously convicted of robbery saw a post on one of the public pages on VKontakte about the detention of a gang of gypsies and left his comment under the post. In his statements, the man called on the public to take hostile and violent actions against representatives of this ethnic group.

A criminal case was opened against a resident of the regional capital for public calls for extremist activities on the Internet (Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The court found the Krasnoyarsk resident guilty and sentenced the man to forced labor for a period of 1 year 8 months with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to posting appeals and other materials in public information and telecommunication networks for 1 year.

Let us remind you that earlier another resident of Krasnoyarsk was also convicted of inciting hostility and violence. According to the prosecutor's office, the defendant developed a persistent hostility towards one of the nationalities during his school years. The roots of this hatred went back to his past – the reason was protracted conflicts with one of the school teachers, representing a culture that the young man did not like. Over the years, this animosity has spilled over into the digital space.
