“As a great patriot said…”

Russian chess great Garry Kasparov, 62, an outspoken opponent of Vladimir Putin who has lived in the United States for many years, strongly condemns the “pleasant plan” that Donald Trump he proposed to Ukraine, one considered by most political analysts to be disadvantageous to Kiev.

The international political scene is “boiling” in anticipation of an outcome of the talks to stop the war in Ukraine, suddenly resumed these days in the form of a controversial document signed by the Russian and American parties.

At a turning point in the war launched by Vladimir Putin on February 24, 2022, Donald Trump issued a pressing ultimatum to Volodymyr Zelensky, asking him to agree by November 27 to the terms of the so-called peace document, through which Ukraine would have to cede territory, shrink its military and guarantee that it would never join NATO.

Garry Kasparov, on the Trump-Putin peace document: “To paraphrase a great Ukrainian patriot…”

In this whole picture, the legendary Garry Kasparov commented with sarcasm on the proposal that Trump presented to Zelenski.

The iconic chess player paraphrased the line used by a Ukrainian military man on the first day of the invasion, when, on Snake Island and in danger of being killed or taken into captivity, he shouted at a Russian ship that was preparing to land on the island a phrase that has become famous: “Russian ship, go to hell!”.

To paraphrase a great Ukrainian patriot: «Russian peace plan, go to hell!“, Kasparov wrote on his X account, formerly Twitter. He then elaborated:

“Don't be fooled by the desired Kremlin/Trump narrative that Ukraine 'rejects peace'. The plan was a capitulation document that would have mutilated Ukraine's sovereignty – the one for which Ukrainians have shed so much blood since the Maidan Revolution, which took place exactly 12 years ago.

No one wants the war to end more than the Ukrainian people and President Zelensky. No one. But they are unwilling to betray the memory of their thousands of dead – brave soldiers and innocent civilians – by rewarding Russia and weakening themselves against the next attack.

Europe has delayed long enough, through cowardice and the misplaced hope that Trump would finally stop supporting Russia against Ukraine and against European security.

The US has already stopped aid. It is long past time for a real peace plan, a plan for the victory of Ukraine,” Kasparov pointed out.

The 28-point plan, which the British press speculates was drafted by the Russian side, triggered concerns this week, in the context in which the major European capitals fear that Donald Trump is trying to force Ukraine to accept a peace agreement that would benefit Vladimir Putin, emphasize the journalists from Libertatea.

In a ten-minute message to the nation on Friday, President Volodymyr Zelensky hinted that a week of crucial importance for the country's future lies ahead and that Ukraine is at a crossroads, having to choose between “loss of dignity and loss of an essential partner”.

“The pressure on Ukraine is one of the greatest. Now Ukraine may face a very difficult choice. Either the loss of dignity or the risk of losing an essential partner. Either accepting some very complicated 28 points or an extremely hard winter“, Zelenski pointed out on Friday, November 21.

The hardest are the long-term risks. A life without freedom, without dignity, without justice. And to be asked to believe in the one who has already attacked twice. A reply from us will be awaited. But in fact, I already gave it on May 20, 2019.

Trump's proposed 28-point “peace plan” for Ukraine

The other day, the United States proposed to Ukraine a 28-point plan to stop the war in Ukraine. According to Libertatea, the strategy drawn up by the US and Russia asks Ukraine, among other things, cede territories, not join NATO and considerably reduce its army, in exchange for supposed security guarantees.

Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of the Ukrainian state, expressed his desire to talk with Donald Trump about the peace plan, but in a way that would not put Kiev at a disadvantage. The head of state testified that he will look for “constructive solutions” and that he is ready to “present arguments, convince and offer alternatives”. According to the said source, citing the Financial Times, the United States is asking Ukraine to accept the peace plan by November 27, Thanksgiving Day. The Trump administration reportedly told Zelenskiy and his aides that an “aggressive” timetable was being worked on to complete the proposal. The goal is, in theory, to end the war before the end of the year.
