The license covers transactions involving Gazprombank, VTB Bank and the Central Bank of the Russian Federation.

Transactions with them are excluded from existing US sanctions against the aggressor country for the unleashed war in Ukraine.

Reuters notes that Washington made this decision against the background of intensified negotiations between the United States and Hungary – in November, Prime Minister Viktor Orban and American President Donald Trump signed an agreement on a strategic partnership in nuclear energy.

According to the agreements, Hungary will buy American nuclear fuel and technologies for storing spent materials, while at the same time using the services of the Russian Federation for the construction of nuclear power plants.

The Paks II project provides for the construction of two generation 3+ reactors of the VVER-1200 type, which should replace outdated power units.
