Dan Nistor (37 years old), who is very close to becoming the player with the most games played in the SuperLiga, talked about his beginnings in football.

Although most footballers who reach a high level practice the sport from a young age, Nistor claims that things were different for him.

Dan Nistor: “I'll probably cry when I have 516 games played in the first league”

Now, the midfielder from Cluj University has reached 495 games played in the first league and is trying to break the record of Ionel Danciulescu, the only one who has collected more (515). This season he surpassed Ladislau Boloni (484), Florea Ispir (485) and Costică Ștefănescu (490).

“I also tell the children who come from behind. At 19, I was a security guard at the hotel. “You know what that means, steal the current”. At 16-17 years old, to be in League 1… at 18 years old, I was a security guard. Those of today have the chance to see players, to play well, to appear on TV… now they have all the conditions. The biggest problem is only with them, I hope they don't get mad at me.

It's a thing…even now I don't realize I've played 495 games. I still have a little time to overtake Danciulescu. I don't know how I'll react when I get 516, I'll probably cry. I talked to Danciu to come too. I learned a lot from him, he's like an older brother”, said Dan Nistor, according to digisport.ro.

Dan Nistor won 4 trophies throughout his career: the League Cup with Dinamo (2017), the title with CFR Cluj (2018), the Romanian Cup and the Supercup with Universitata Craiova (2021). He also played for Pandurii Târgu Jiu and, from 2023, for U Cluj.
