Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Democrats of trying to “divert attention” by releasing sex offender Jeffrey Epstein's emails and warned Republicans against this “trap”, writes AFP.
“Democrats are trying to relaunch the fraud around Jeffrey Epstein, because they would do anything to divert attention from the errors they made in relation to the budget paralysis,” the American president said, through a message published on his social network, Truth Social, according to Agerpres.
“Only a very bad or stupid Republican would fall into this trap,” Trump added, as a vote could soon take place in Congress to force the government to release documents it has on Jeffrey Epstein, whom Donald Trump once dated.
Earlier, the White House accused the opposition of manufacturing a “fake story” after Democratic lawmakers released a 2019 email in which sex offender Jeffrey Epstein said Donald Trup “knew about girls.”

“Democrats selectively leaked emails to the left-wing media to fabricate a false story to smear President Trump,” executive spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said in a statement.
What Epstein says in an email
“Trump stated that he wanted me to give up” the membership card of Mar-a-Lago, the Florida residence of the American president, said Jeffrey Epstein in an email sent to the famous journalist and author Michael Wolff, posted on the X network of Democratic lawmakers and first reported by the New York Times and CNN.
Epstein clarified in this email that he was never a member of Mar-a-Lago and added, “Of course he knew about the girls.”
“The truth is that President Trump kicked Jeffrey Epstein out of his club decades ago because he misbehaved with his female employees,” Leavitt said Wednesday.

The White House has also released a long list of articles that it says illustrate that Michael Wolff is not reliable and that his work is “tainted with errors and approximations.”
The US president has always denied knowing about his long-time close associate's criminal behavior before they fell out in the 2000s, saying their feud took place years before those crimes came to light.
The Epstein case is inflaming the US after Donald Trump's administration announced in early July that it had discovered no new elements to justify the release of additional documents in the case.
Epstein's suicide death fueled countless conspiracy theories that he was assassinated to prevent high-profile figures from getting involved in the affair.
After promising his supporters loud revelations during the presidential campaign, Donald Trump today tries to extinguish the controversy, which he has described several times as a “hoax” staged by the Democratic opposition.
