Realitatea Plus receives a hefty fine from CNA for electoral advertising outside the campaign

The National Broadcasting Council (CNA) fined, on Wednesday, Realitatea Plus with 200,000 lei for news broadcasts and debates in which provisions of the Broadcasting Code were violated. Romania TV and Naşul TV each received fines of 50,000 lei, News.ro informs.

One of the fines granted to Realitatea Plus was for news shows and debates broadcast on 06 and 07.11.2025 in which the provisions of art. 166 para. (1) of the Audiovisual Content Regulation Code: “Advertising, positive or negative, in relation to political parties, political people, political messages is prohibited, except during election campaign periods”.

Among the titles displayed: “Today: Anca Alexandrescu, again among the Romanians”; “Today: Anca Alexandrescu talks to Romanians in the street”; “Anca Alexandrescu and George Simion, street meeting with Romanians”; “Anca Alexandrescu, among Romanians. Exciting moments”; “Anca Alexandrescu, alongside the Romanians humiliated by the regime”; “Anca Alexandrescu descends on the markets captured by the mafia”; “Now: Anca Alexandrescu, alongside Romanians in the street”; “Anca Alexandrescu now descends in sector 4, live images”; “Now: Massive support for Anca Alexandrescu, people are collecting signatures”.

Also, the Realitatea Plus station received another sanction of 100,000 lei for non-compliance with the provisions of art. 3 paragraph (2) from the Audiovisual Law no. 504/2002 and of art. 82 para. (1) lit. b) and para. (2) of the Code for the regulation of audiovisual content in news programs and debates broadcast on 05 and 06.11.2025. Titles displayed: “Ionuţ Moşteanu, bellicose speech at the NATO forum”, “Moşteanu, alarmist speech. How he means that the war is coming; Hallucinatory speech from the defense resistance”. The statement was falsely attributed to the Minister of Defense according to which “It is a matter of time until we see war”, although the broadcasts partially broadcast the minister's speech (in English, with Romanian subtitles) in which he states: “It is a matter of time until we have peace. Everyone wants peace (…)”.

The council considered that Romania TV also violated the law and sanctioned the station with 50,000 lei for non-compliance with the provisions of art. 3 paragraph (2) from the Audiovisual Law no. 504/2002 and of art. 82 para. (1) lit. b) and para. (2) of the Code for the regulation of audiovisual content in informative programs broadcast on 05 and 06.11.2025. Among the headlines displayed: “Resist Minister: It's a matter of time before we see war”.

The Nașul TV station received a fine of 50,000 lei for the show “Let's talk about you” from 11.11.2025, during which the provisions of art. 3 paragraph (2) from the Audiovisual Law no. 504/2002. Displayed title: “PSD Minister of Health wants to eliminate doctors from the system”.

In Wednesday's meeting, a public summons was given to the stations Prima Sport 1, Prima Sport 2 and Prima Sport 3 for violating the provisions of art. 109 para. (7) of the Audiovisual Content Regulation Code, which stipulates that “It is prohibited to broadcast advertising for games of chance in which public, cultural, scientific, sports personalities or other persons who, due to their notoriety in the online environment, can encourage participation in such games” are present.
