I restored the power to an old vacuum cleaner: I learned 1 cleaning life hack – it started working like new

Over time, even the most powerful vacuum cleaner loses suction power. The reason most often lies in the fact that even with regular cleaning, lumps of dust and lint accumulate in the vacuum cleaner in the container or bag. Also, blockages appear in the tubes and brushes, dirt and hair collect in the filters, and fine dust accumulates in the fine filters.

All this reduces suction power and can lead to overheating of the motor.

To restore the vacuum cleaner to its former strength, it is worth carrying out preventive cleaning. To do this, it is not necessary to take the equipment to a specialist.

Use these simple tips and your vacuum cleaner will work at its best again.

You will need

  • Rubber gloves
  • Soft brush or old toothbrush
  • Dust container or simple bag
  • Clean water for washing filters

Step by step instructions

  1. Before starting, make sure that the device is unplugged. Take out the dust collector or dust bag, tubes and brushes.
  2. Using your hands or a brush, carefully remove dust, hair, and large clumps of debris from the container. Shake the dust bag over a trash can.
  3. HEPA, foam and other filters should be carefully rinsed under running water if the instructions allow this.
  4. Dry them completely before putting them back.
  5. For dry cleaning, you can use a vacuum cleaner at minimum power to suck up dust from the surface of the filter.
  6. Check tubes and nozzles. Dust and hair often get stuck inside hoses and brushes. We pass a thin wire through them or simply pull out the debris with our hands using a brush.
  7. Put the vacuum cleaner back together and plug it in. You will notice that the suction power is restored and the vacuum cleaner works almost like new again.

To maintain power, clean the filters at least once a month, do not overfill the bag or container, and regularly check the tubes and brushes for hair after each cleaning. Once a season, do a complete disassembly and cleaning.

Regular cleaning of the vacuum cleaner not only restores suction power, but also extends the life of the device. Spend just 10-15 minutes cleaning filters and tubes, and your equipment will clean as well as the day you bought it.
