In Krasnoyarsk, Margarita Mikhailovna Koverchenko, a resident of the Kirovsky district, turned 90 years old. This was reported to the mayor's office.

Margarita Mikhailovna was born in Leningrad and spent almost a year as a child in the besieged city. In 1942, she, along with her mother and younger brothers, were evacuated to Krasnoyarsk, where her relatives lived. The woman's father died at the front in 1944.

“I remember Leningrad poorly, I was only 5 years old. Eternal hunger was etched in my memory. I remember that during the blockade we were in the kindergarten, lived in the basement, slept on bunks, and walked on boards under which there was water. Everyone had scurvy. We collected pine needles in the park, brewed them and drank them,” recalls Margarita Koverchenko.

In Krasnoyarsk, she studied at the railway technical school and worked on the railway for almost forty years.

Today, the woman heads the veterans’ organization “Blockaders,” actively participates in regional patriotic events and conducts lessons in courage for young people.

At the mayor's office, Margarita Mikhailovna was congratulated on the holiday, and the woman was wished health and strength.
