“Six of our fellow citizens lost their lives in a fire that broke out in the Dilovasi district at around 9 am (6 GMT),” Kocaeli province governor Ilhami Aktas, which includes the city of Dilovasi, told Turkish public broadcaster TRT Haber.
“One of the injured is in critical condition due to burns. (…) Four other injured are in a relatively stable condition and are also receiving medical attention,” he added.
“The fire was quickly extinguished. Cooling operations were carried out. Our firefighters, in coordination with the prosecutor's office, are conducting the necessary investigations to determine the causes of the fire,” added the governor.
Two floors of a building used as a warehouse and perfume factory were charred by the fire, the cause of which is not yet known.
