A 65-year-old man lost his life, on Monday evening, in a road accident on National Road 1, outside the town of Băicoi, Prahova county. The car he was driving caught fire after the violent impact with an electricity pole.
The accident occurred around evening, on the direction of travel towards Ploiești. The car the victim was in crashed into an obstacle and caught fire shortly after the impact.
According to the information provided by the Prahova Police, “a 65-year-old man allegedly drove a car on DN1, outside the town of Băicoi, in the direction of Brașov towards Ploiești, he allegedly lost control over the direction of travel and collided with an electricity pole. As a result of the impact, the driver was ejected from the car, and the vehicle subsequently caught fire“.

Witnesses in the area immediately intervened and tried to pull the driver out of the burning car. According to the first information, the man was pulled out of the car by the other traffic participants, who tried to extinguish the fire. Unfortunately, despite their best efforts, the victim could not be saved.

“The military firefighters from the Băicoi Intervention Guard acted in the event of a road accident on DN1, within the radius of the city of Băicoi. A special vehicle was mobilized to the scene of extinguishing, a SMURD ambulance, and the SMURD mobile intensive care ambulance (with a doctor) moved from Ploiești”announced the Prahova Emergency Situations Inspectorate.
“In the road event only one car was involvedwith an occupant on board. The accident was followed by a fire. The person in the car, a man aged approximately 50 years, was declared dead”the Inspectorate for Emergency Situations Prahova sent, according to Agerpres.
The Prahova police announced that traffic is restricted on lane number 1, in the direction of Ploiesti, until the on-site investigations are completed.
The authorities are yet to establish the exact circumstances in which the tragic accident occurred.
