Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelenski reacted on Thursday's statements to his American counterpart, Donald Trump, who cataloged the bloody rocket attack on the city of Sumî, made on Sunday of Flowers, as “a mistake”, showing that the bombing that killed at least 35 civilians, was a deliberate one.

Zelenski made this comment at a press conference in Kiev, after being asked about Trump's statements.

“Excuse me, but this is a crime. This blow came to the center (city), was not aimed at the front line,” said the Ukrainian leader.

“We cannot find excuses when you hit the city center center, and not just a single rocket. And if it's not a single rocket, then it's not a mistake,” Zelenski continued.

Russian forces launched two iskander-m ballistic missiles on the city of Sumî on the morning of Flowers Sunday, killing at least 35 people, including two children, and injuring at least 117 other people, according to Ukrainian authorities.

The bombardment, which hit the civil infrastructure in the city center, was one of the most lethal in recent months. Trump said that the rocket attack on the sum is “horrible”, but suggested it was a “mistake”.

“I think it was awful, and I was told they made a mistake, but I think it is a horrible thing. I think the whole war is a horrible thing (…) For this war to have started it is an abuse of power. This country (USA) would never have accepted that this war would start if I was a president.

Zelenski also reacted on Thursday to the comments made by the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, who publicly convicted the attack. “There was a reaction from the Secretary of State Rubio, and his reaction was clear. He condemned the blow and we are grateful for this reaction,” said the Ukrainian president.

“A more serious condemnation came from many of our other partners, who have been talking clearly about who the Russians are after such actions,” Zelenski added.

He also noticed what he described as a “milder” tone from the American administration and US political establishment towards Russia. “I think this milder reaction reflects a continuation of current American politics. They seem to believe that this type of diplomacy will help to conclude the war,” said the Ukrainian leader. “That's how I interpret it,” Zelenski said.

The United States has informed G7 colleagues that they will not support a joint statement of Russia's missile attack on Sumy, Bloomberg reported on April 15, citing anonymous sources.

The United States has transmitted to the allies in the group of the seven (G7) that they will not support a statement of condemnation of the city of Sumî, Russia's bloodiest attack on this year, because they want to keep the negotiations with Moscow on the line, Bloomberg reported on April 15.

Also, the Trump administration has previously blocked a proposal to declare G7 that condemned Russia's large -scale invasion, to the three -year war, and opposed a plane to set up an operative group to monitor the “ghost fleet” of Russia. In addition, Washington refused to support Russian aggression conviction at the United Nations (UN) and the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Although Trump has committed to mediate a cessation of fire between Ukraine and Russia, his peace efforts are stagnant, in the context in which Moscow continues to reject the variant of a complete 30 -day armistice, proposed by the US administration. So far, Trump has not increased the pressure on Moscow, notes the Ukrainian publication.
