Spider mites infect indoor plants, harm greenhouse plants, and cause significant damage to plants in open ground. This is a dangerous pest, and to protect your plants, you need to start fighting as soon as you notice the first signs of its appearance. The author of the Zen channel “Favorite Flowers” (16+) spoke about methods of struggle.
At the initial stage of mite development, if the plant is not yet severely damaged, you can use a variety of folk methods, for example, spraying the leaves on both sides with a soap solution, infusion of onion peels or garlic.
Spray the plant with water and place it in a plastic bag, leaving it for 3-4 days. Most types of ticks cannot withstand high humidity and die.
If the damage is significant, folk remedies will no longer help. Therefore, it is necessary to use chemicals – acaricides or insectoacaricides.
Be sure to alternate the use of drugs with different active substances. Repeated use of the same insecticide can cause mites to become addicted.
Experts also advise combining drugs against pests and diseases, because spider mites are the spreader of many dangerous diseases, and in addition, weakened plants are especially susceptible to infection.
How to recognize the appearance of spider mites on a plant:
- Many small light dots appeared on the back of the leaves.
- A thin cobweb appeared on parts of the plants.
- Colonies of pests are visible at the tips of the shoots.
- The leaves gradually turn white, lose color and die, the plant stops growing, sheds buds and flowers.
At the slightest suspicion of a spider mite, the plant should be isolated from others.
