The British army conducted a successful test of the new weapon, in which radio waves were used to track and eliminate drones – the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain said on Thursday.

According to the ministry, with the help of invisible radio waves it is possible to eliminate whole drones swarms. The test was carried out in West Wales; It was the greatest anti -done exercise that the British army so far.
The ministry explains that the tested weapon uses high -frequency radio waves to interfere or damage critical electronic components in unmanned aerial vehicles, causing their failure or incorrect operation. The system that has been given the working name RF DEW can track the air goals up to 1 km.
According to the ministry, in the near future, such a solution can complement traditional air defense systems based on missiles.
The UK government has invested over 40 million pounds in research and development of weapons using radio waves so far. Work on it is carried out in Northern Ireland and South-Eastern England.
The British Ministry of Defense pointed out that drones are increasingly used in fights on the front line of the front in Ukraine. British military intelligence estimates that last year Ukraine had to defend against attacks of over 18,000. drones.
“RF DEW is an exciting concept. We quickly learned to use this weapon, it is easy to use. By improving the range and power that may appear with further development, it would be a great advantage for our air defense forces” – said one of the officers, who first used the new weapon during the test.
