The Ministry of Energy sees room for price reductions from the approved URE tariffs and believes that their level should be close to PLN 500 per MWh – said Minister Miłosz Motyka on RMF FM radio.

“Today we see room for price reductions in the approved tariffs. As was the case in the last quarter of this year. And so we believe that prices of tariffs approved by the President of the Energy Regulatory Office should be at a level close to PLN 500 per megawatt hour” – said Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka when asked why the government is not freezing energy prices.
“At this level, there should be no price increases on bills. We are yet to analyze this distribution part. However, when it comes to the price of electricity itself, we are dealing with declines,” he added.
Moreover, he indicated that the government would simplify electricity bills.
“First of all, and most importantly, what we will do is simplify the electricity bill. At the beginning, so that everyone knows what they are paying for. Everyone will know how much they have consumed, how much they pay for it, how much their distribution costs and how much they have in total on the bill. But in order to know how much they have paid, it will first of all need to be measured,” he pointed out.
“We will introduce this simple solution and all companies will be obliged to do so. I hope that this bill will be passed by the parliament this year. It is a deregulatory bill in which we include a number of solutions regarding energy and heat, but also simplifying electricity bills,” he added.
Motyka also referred to dynamic tariffs, pointing out that they make sense when electricity is consumed when it is cheap.
“Let's consider introducing a price cap to guarantee appropriate safety for citizens (…) by encouraging energy consumption. We have an application such as 'Energy Kompas', where the advice clearly states how much each of us can save by turning on a given device at a time when energy in dynamic tariffs is cheaper, but we do not want to force Poles to do so, but encourage them. It should be clearly shown, in black and white, how we can gain,” said the Minister of Energy. (PAP Business)
