On October 22, the United States imposed sanctions against Russian energy giants Lukoil and Rosneft, given Putin's refusal to end the “senseless war” in Ukraine. This was the first package of financial restrictions against the Russian Federation during Trump’s second presidential term.
According to Whitaker, the United States “has imposed these sanctions” and “plans to adhere to them.”
Perhaps it will be the sanctions that will force Putin to “sit down at the negotiating table and end the war” or at least “conclude a ceasefire agreement” so that a final solution can be agreed upon, the American diplomat added.
However, Whitaker noted that this is just the beginning.
“President Trump has all the cards in his hands, this is just one of the cards he is playing. There are many others,” the US Ambassador concluded.
