Although the old stadium in Constanța was demolished over two years ago, work on the new arena, which will be named after Gheorghe Hagi, has not yet started.

The stadium will have a capacity of 18,100 seats and will be classified in UEFA category 4. The technical project is almost completed and the authorization is issued, but the start of the works has been delayed, being initially scheduled for the summer of this year.

In the context in which Ilie Bolojan, the Prime Minister of Romania, announced at the end of June that certain municipalities must contribute financially to the construction of the new stadiums in Romania, the initial date of the start of the works was delayed, to the displeasure of the Constanta supporters.

Work on the new arena in Constanța will begin before 2027

Considered a priority for the Constanța Municipality, the new arena would start its construction before 2027, after the Constanța Administrative-Territorial Unit has already approved a co-financing of 13% of the total value of the works. The contribution percentage will be 25% in total, according to the representatives.

“From the information that appeared in the public space, from the discussions with the institutions that manage the funds and considering the current situation of the state budget, the only way to start the works is the initial funding from the local budget, and the sources from the state budget will be allocated later.

The source of the 25% contribution is the own revenues of the local budget, which will be allocated through a decision of the City Council. Currently, a co-financing of 13% of the value of the works has already been approved.

As the legal framework allows, UAT Constanța Municipality has drawn up the concrete plan for carrying out the works on the local component, so that they will be started before the year 2027″, revealed the representatives of UAT Constanța Municipality, according to golazo.ro.

The execution period of the project is 21 months, and UAT Constanța claims that the works will be started before 2027, although that was the initial completion period.
