If you want your flowerbed to delight you with bright colors all summer long, choose plants with strong immunity, dense leaves and long-lasting flowering. Such flowers do not fade in the sun, do not rot after rains and do not lose their decorative effect even with minimal care.
Among the many annuals, three proven varieties stand out, which have become my basis for any flower bed.
Petunia “Surfinia” – this is not just a petunia, but a real waterfall of flowers. The bushes grow quickly, covering the soil with a dense carpet, and flowering begins in May and lasts until frost. The flowers do not shrink even in hot weather, do not fall off after rain and tolerate partial shade well. Ideal for balcony boxes, hanging baskets and flowerbed foregrounds.
Marigolds “Lemon Prince” – compact bushes 25–30 cm high with double, bright yellow inflorescences. They are not only beautiful, but also protect neighboring plants from pests with their pungent aroma. They bloom without interruption, do not require fertilizing and feel great even in poor soil. Particularly good in mixborders and along paths.
Zinnia “Profusion” – a favorite for sunny areas. Its large, double flowers resemble daisies, but are much denser and brighter. They do not wither in drought, do not turn black after rain and last for more than a week when cut. Flowering begins 6-7 weeks after planting and does not stop until October. Looks great in group plantings and as a background for low-growing flowers.
How to care for them to bloom longer
After planting in the ground, water regularly, but do not overwater. Once every two to three weeks, feed with complex fertilizer. Be sure to remove faded flowers: this stimulates the appearance of new buds. If it is very hot, lightly shade the flowerbed during lunch hours.
Such flowers do not require daily care, but give joy every day.
