The author of the publication drew attention to the speed with which, instead of the planned summit of US President Donald Trump with the illegitimate president of the aggressor country of Russia, Vladimir Putin, America imposed sanctions against the Russian energy sector.
Trump has hinted to advisers that his “instincts” tell him it's time to move in a different direction with Putin. According to media interlocutors, this was “the culmination of good conversations with Putin.” Repeatedly after telephone conversations with the head of the Kremlin and after a meeting in Alaska, Trump spoke about progress and productive dialogue, and then learned about another Russian attack on Ukraine, a senior White House official told the media.
A few hours before the announcement of US sanctions, Russia struck a kindergarten building in Kharkov. The CNN journalist recalled footage from the scene showing the rescue of terrified children. And this case of Russian aggression against the backdrop of Trump’s peace efforts is not the only one.
Another official expressed the opinion that Trump was motivated to impose sanctions against the Russian Federation by the end of the war in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas, which became possible after the American president became tougher on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Trump also repeatedly received calls from the author of the bill on powerful sanctions against the Russian Federation, Senator Lindsey Graham, and other Republican allies calling on him to take action. US Senate Majority Leader John Thune has said he wants to introduce a long-delayed sanctions bill.
Until now, Trump has delayed the introduction of sanctions against the Russian Federation, explaining that they could alienate Putin from the peace process, but did not rule out that he would do so. He imposed tariffs on India for buying Russian oil, but did not impose similar ones on China.
After months of threatening Russia with new sanctions, Trump has “went further than ever before” in punishing Moscow for the war against Ukraine, a CNN journalist said.
At the same time, she recalls that Trump did not rule out that a meeting with Putin would take place in the future. According to White House press secretary Caroline Leavitt, the United States first wants to make sure that this meeting will bring a tangible, positive result and that Trump will not waste his time again.
