The Polish state will be ruthless towards people working for Russian intelligence; there is no concession here – emphasized the head of the Ministry of National Defense, Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, who on Tuesday referred to the detention of people acting to the detriment of Poland on behalf of Russian intelligence.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that the Internal Security Agency, in cooperation with other services, had in recent days detained eight people suspected of preparing acts of sabotage. In turn, the spokesman for the coordinator of special services, Jacek Dobrzyński, said that in recent months the Internal Security Agency had detained 55 people acting to the detriment of Poland on behalf of Russian intelligence. In this case, the ABW cooperates closely with the Military Counterintelligence Service, the police and the prosecutor's office.
– This is an organized attack on our civilizationan organized attack on our values, on the Polish state, on NATO countries, on the European Union – emphasized Kosiniak-Kamysz. He noted that these activities are not limited to Poland – similar incidents, such as the appearance of drones over the Copenhagen airport, also occurred in Lithuania, the Czech Republic, France and Germany. – If some people think that Russia is far from them, Russia is very close to every European country – he added.
The head of the Ministry of National Defense also warned that the state will be ruthless towards those who threaten security.
– I warn everyone, especially the citizens of the Republic of Poland, but also all those who take part in such practices or are tempted: do not give in to easy ways to make money, because doing so can result in years in prison and we will be ruthless here. The Polish state will be ruthless towards all those who in any way threaten our security. There is no concession here, there is no mercy for such behavior – warned the Deputy Prime Minister.
In turn, the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, in a conversation with journalists on Tuesday, emphasized that sabotage actions in Poland have been observed for many months. – Some of these actions, which are intended to prevent the spread of sabotage, are made public, some, for understandable reasons, are not. However, the fact that we are living safely so far shows that this system is working, said the Speaker of the Sejm.
He also added that the enemy is very clever, consistent and acts in the long term, and acts of direct sabotage are sometimes prepared to be carried out, and sometimes to make people fear saboteurs and start reacting with fear and aggression.
– This is breaking up society – said Hołownia. That's why – he added – “you have to be very careful when informing about such things”, because the saboteurs' goal may be “to make us fear them”. – And we can never let them scare us, because it will mean that they won a war against us without firing a single shot, which they should never have won – said Hołownia.
During Tuesday's press conference, Dobrzyński presented, among others: the last operation of the Internal Security Agency, during which three people were detained: 21-year-old Ukrainian citizen Danyl H. and two of his associates – also Ukrainian citizens – detained in Romania. – Preliminary information shows that together with their colleagues, two other Ukrainians, they created a kind of trail where they were to send explosives – said Dobrzyński.
The National Prosecutor's Office announced in a statement that the Masovian Branch of the Department for Organized Crime and Corruption of the National Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw is conducting an investigation (entrusted to the Internal Security Agency) regarding the activities of a foreign intelligence service – the Russian Federation – against the Republic of Poland and EU allied countries. The prosecutor's office accuses the detained of working for foreign intelligence and preparing sabotage of a terrorist nature. District Court for the Capital City of Warsaw Warsaw decided to arrest the detainee for three months, and the court in Romania agreed to detain two people detained in this country for 30 days.
The cases of the remaining five detainees concern, among others, recognizing military infrastructure and arson. (PAP)
