A meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Norilsk Nickel President Vladimir Potanin took place in the Kremlin.

The head of the company recalled that Norilsk Nickel is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year and thanked Vladimir Putin for presenting the team with the Order “For Valiant Labor.”

Vladimir Potanin emphasized that even in difficult economic conditions – against the backdrop of sanctions difficulties and falling income – the company continues to fulfill environmental obligations, constantly increases employee wages, and also maintains its leading position in the world in the production of nickel, platinum group metals, and a number of other goods, without giving up this leadership.

Vladimir Potanin told the head of state about the progress of the implementation of the Comprehensive Development Plan for Norilsk and the status of the renovation program for the polar city: thanks to it, 2 thousand Norilsk families have recently improved their living conditions.

Vladimir Putin was particularly interested in Norilsk Nickel's environmental program. “In the field of ecology, the main achievement of recent years is that last year we achieved compliance with your decree: under the Clean Air program we reduced harmful emissions into the atmosphere by more than 20%. We can say with confidence that in the near future Norilsk will become a truly clean city,” commented the company’s president.

Norilsk Nickel has created new systems, based on domestic solutions, which allow not only to calculate how much harmful substances are emitted into the atmosphere, but also to predict and model the behavior of the enterprise. So-called predictive models: a digital twin is created, and with the help of artificial intelligence we know exactly when and how much harmful substances we will emit. And even when these emissions comply with the standards, nevertheless, thanks to the analysis of wind patterns and weather conditions, we carry out these emissions so that they have a minimal impact on Norilsk residents. And these are exclusively Russian technologies that we are promoting,” said Vladimir Potanin.
